Overwolf Pays $201 Million to In-Game Creators in 2023

Since 2010, Overwolf has worked tirelessly to build the ecosystem for the in-game creator economy through our industry-leading tech stack that supports passionate gaming modders, app developers and private server owners. And so it gives us great pleasure to share with you that this year we paid out $201 million to in-game creators, a 25% increase over last year, across our various platforms.

UGC is becoming one of the gaming industry’s largest growth engines, with the world’s most popular games turning to creators to provide gamers with endless quality content. For over a decade, Overwolf has provided the creation tools and resources required to make unique gaming experiences for top AAA titles. Our platform now has 165,000 creators and 41 million monthly active players, and we are honored to be able to support in-game creators across the globe to turn their passion into a profession.

Although there are endless creators worth highlighting, here are a few inspiring success stories from those who have been able to achieve legendary status.

Creators like Arco ‘Tex’ Dielhof, Matt Hawkins, and Trebonius have transformed in-game content creation into full-time professions. Tex is pioneering enhanced UI apps that seamlessly guide players across maps for acclaimed games like Diablo IV and Baldur’s Gate 3. Meanwhile, Matt Hawkins, the CEO of Tracker Network, has achieved remarkable scalability with 10 million registered users for the leading stats websites and in-game apps developed by his company for various top games. This year one of ourvery own, Trebonius, the mastermind behind one of the most popular League of Legends apps, Porofessor, was acquired for €50 million.

We’re also pioneering possibilities for game studios to build on existing games like ARK: Survival Ascended, diversifying revenue streams and shaping the future of the gaming industry. As we reflect on the successes of platforms like Roblox and UEFN in attracting professional studios, we anticipate a similar trend in the coming year — where professional studios join the modding revolution.

Let’s Build the Future of Games, Together

Overwolf is proud to be a catalyst in the rise of the gaming UGC revolution, helping in-game creators earn the recognition and compensation they deserve. We are dedicated to empowering creators and are guided by our north star to pay $1 billion by 2030. Whether you’re an in-game app developer, mod creator, or private server owner, Overwolf invites you to join and be a part of changing the world of gaming. As the UGC ecosystem matures, the future looks promising for both creators and the gaming industry as a whole.
