Overwolf version 0.51.325 released!

Break into your dad’s liqueur cabinet, get a couple of kegs, as much junk food as you can get your hands on, about 5 cases of energy drinks, and get ready for a streaming party.
Twitch finally made its way into Overwolf!

Some of you may have found Twitch hiding (perhaps not so well) in our previous version. This time around it’s definitely not hiding, and it also received great features, for your streaming pleasure:

  • We expected some of the feedback from the test version, so we developed it in advance – you can now send chat messages through the Twitch chat window
  • And while on the subject of the chat, we made it look and feel more like the original Twitch chat that you all love. There’s a small workaround on the name colors that we had to do, but that’ll be sorted out soon
  • I already blabbed about this one – a webcam feature has been added, with the ability to resize, set opacity and place it wherever the heck you want to
  • Stream options: you now have the ability to choose which of the Twitch windows will be displayed on the stream, and which won’t. You can even set the camera to ‘Always stream’, minimize it, and it’ll continue to appear in the stream, without adding clutter to your game (watch out Xsplit)
  • Hope you’re not tired yet, but Twitch also offers a hotkey for playing commercials.
  • A better BRB message when tabbing out to the desktop
  • And a notification will pop for Overwolf buddies that started steaming!

Staying in-line with good news – Skype is being brought back from the dead. We shook our stick at the API, and it didn’t seem to respond in a bad manner. So yeah, Skype is back, hurray (thank god I don’t have to tab out anymore).

Furthermore, League of Legends now works on Windows 8.1. Mhhmmmm, we fixed those horribad crashes, and as a free dessert – all OS’s received additional stability. A round of applause to our engineers, they deserve it.

And as usual, the line that says nothing, but means the world: “various stability fixes and enhancements have been made”.

The following new games are now supported by Overwolf:

  • DAYZ
  • Starbound
  • Rust
  • NBA 2K14
  • King’s Bounty: Legions
  • NosTale EU
  • Marvel Puzzle Quest

An apology & important update

Hey everyone!

With our recent version being released, we introduced a bug that many of you have encountered, the dreaded “Failed to start application, please contact support” bug.

I’m happy to let you all know that we solved the issue and you can now download a fixed version.

Download the new version from here.

All you need to do is basically just re-install the program.

The bug was caused by a feature that allowed you to launch your recently played games from your tray icon. This new feature introduced a bug that rendered a lot of people’s Overwolf in-operable because the tray menu placed two instances of your game instead of one.

We’d like to deeply apologize to anyone who was affected by this bug. We’re sure that many of you were frustrated and took your precious time to try and fix it. We’re very sorry for letting this slip through our fingers.

If you still have any trouble, please let us know on our forums or contact us.

Quick Update

What’s up?

In a recent update of ours, we realized there is a bug that happens eventually to our users that makes Overwolf not be able to run and gives the error message “Failed To Start Application, Please Contact Support.”

We’re working on a fix for you guys, but until we release a fix, here’s a work-around.

Now this is important - If you don’t do what is listed below, then you will have to uninstall your current version and re-install the new version when we release it. This is because you won’t be able to update your current version since you can’t run Overwolf and auto update it.

For Windows Vista/7/8

1. Close Overwolf.
2. Click the Windows “Start” button.
3. In the “Search” bar type “%localappdata%/Overwolf/Settings” without the quotation marks.
4. Delete the file called “SettingsPageGeneral”

For Windows XP

1. Close Overwolf.
2. Click the Windows “Start” button.
3. Using the “Run”, type “%localappdata%” without the quotation marks.
4. Click the “Local” folder and navigate to the Overwolf folder.
5. Inside the Overwolf folder there is the Settings folder.
6. Delete the file called “SettingsPageGeneral”

We’re very sorry for the trouble and we’ll be releasing a fix as soon as we can!

Having some issues?

Hello everybody!

If you were having some issues over the last day with the signature app, Overwolf chat or app installations we apologize. We had some trouble on our end with our servers and fixed them.

The only thing that still isn’t up and running 100% is the MySignature app, so please  bear with us while we fix it too! We’ll keep you guys updated when it gets fixed.

Overwolf version 0.49.305 released!

Waddup playas and playettes?

In this version, we have some #swag updates to Overwolf.

The sickly, weird looking tray icon, and his partner in crime, the boring, gray tray menu have been awarded the fugly awards, with the prize being a pimpin’ fresh makeover.

We took them out to the gym for some shaping-up, slapped a fresh coat of paint and buffed them out to a stylish mirror finish, so haters can see their hatin’ reflection in it #Steeze.

Besides making them absolutely beautiful, we’ve also worked on their personality. The tray menu now features a more relevant set of features. The most exciting addition is a list of recently played games, and it’s not just for looks, you can launch them right from the menu!

Additionally, you can now choose whether you want your in-game links (as in links that are part of the game) to open in your default browser or in the Overwolf browser, KAPOW.

Finally, we’ve hidden something on the Appstore for you to try out before we officially release it, can you find Waldo?
Speaking of project “Waldo”, it’s the reason this version isn’t exploding with features. It has taken us days and nights working on this one, and we’ll be announcing it on the next version.
I’ll offer a small hint – “Waldo” is also hiding in the image at the top. Now, can you guess what it is?

The following new games are now supported by Overwolf:

  • America’s Army: Proving Grounds
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Forced
  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Monaco
  • Outlast
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2014

Overwolf Chat is hit! – Updated!

Hey all!

We’ve got all those emails, and messages so we just wanted to get a quick update out, we are having some technical difficulties with our Overwolf chat servers that are coming online and going down every so often due to the sheer amount of users that we’re getting logging in (our servers apparently don’t lift).

While our raid team is geared up and fighting their way to fix that server, you guys can keep gaming since nothing else is affected.

Update – We’ve fixed the issues with the servers and it should be smooth sailing from here on out!

Overwolf version 0.47.284 released!

Mahalo dudes and dudets,

Let me tell you a story about the little Overwolf version that could(n’t) even give me enough material for a blog post, therefore I’ll share some anecdotes about my life instead (not really).

A substantial life enhancer added in this version is the fix to Steam’s security code mechanic. Starting from this version we’ll only require the Steam security code once. Any subsequent login will land you safely in your friend list, rather than sending you on a scavenger hunt in the mailbox.

On a sadder note, Skype decided that we don’t deserve an in-game overlay, so they shut down their API, and we had to disable the Skype app. The Overwolf team will be looking for solutions on various 3rd world black markets, and hopefully we’ll stumble upon a rogue Skype employee who’ll hook us up with the good stuff.

Ayo, Stevey (that’s what I call Steve Ballmer, we’re best buds), bring back the API support, be a mensch!

Don’t get the idea that we slacked off this whole release, we’ve done some major work on infrastructures and some hush-hush secret projects are also in the making, so don’t change the channel on us.

. . .

To wrap up this exhilarating version, the following new games are now supported by Overwolf:

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • America’s Army: Proving Grounds
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2014

Yawn about this update on the forums

I’ll close this one with a joke: What did the Buddhist monk say to the hot dog seller? “Make me one with everything”.

Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here every release,

Skype is down!

Family, friends, we are gathered here today…

My friend, the Skype API, was a great API. He was dearly loved by all developers and made many a user, a happy user. Although he came from simple beginnings, he rose to greatness, though now we must bid him goodbye for now as he moves on to a better place (or so we hope).

As many of you are aware, Skype announced a ways back that they will be removing support for the Skype desktop API. This means that third party apps that use the API to make chats and such, wont work anymore (sadly) which means we have to close our Skype chat app for now. We’ve got our best people working on a solution though so stay tuned!

Announcing the Overwolf Touch Controller beta! (and a new Overwolf version…)

Hi to all you organic life forms,

This update of Overwolf is a boring one, as it brings nothing new to the table, but that’s only if you’re sitting at my table, ha! Highfive! No one? Fine, let’s continue…

Remember the Win8 device you bought and didn’t know why? We have the answer – it’s for gaming!
After releasing videos for over a year, teasing everyone out there, it’s about damn time we release the touch controls for gaming on Win 8 touch devices!
The initial beta release (yo dawg, we heard you like beta) supports the following games:

  • Skyrim
  • Borderlands 2
  • The Witcher 2
  • Crysis 2
  • DC Universe Online
  • Castle Crashers

How do you get your hands on this ridonkulous feature?

Navigate yourself to overwolf.com/overwolf-touch-controller and take a few seconds to be in awe, once you’ve awed enough follow this grocery list of explanations:

  • Beg, borrow or steal your way to a Win8 touch device. Just kidding (or am I?).
  • Get Overwolf installed and running on your device.
  • Go to the Appstore, and have looksy in the “for tablets” section.
  • Download the controllers you want, please take only one controller per game, so everyone gets a chance to try them all.
  • Once the controller is installed, just start playing (with Overwolf running) and the controller will be in-game, ready for action.
  • Fill in the feedback form, so we can create the best possible experience.

Once you’ve placed a check mark next to each item on the list, play some more and have fun!
